Overview

Cu-River is an Australian magnetite iron ore mining company, with significant global reach.

We were established in 2014 in South Australia by Adelaide businessman Yong Gang Shan, who has more than 20 years of mineral processing experience in South-East Asia.

Mr Shan purchased the existing Cairn Hill iron ore mine in far-north South Australia along with several exploration licenses.

After an extensive $20 million upgrade to Cairn Hill, Cu-River started mining in 2016. Significantly it produced and exported one million tonnes of magnetite ore in its first 12 months of operation.

Plans are well underway for a significant expansion of Cairn Hill that will see 3Mt (million tonne) of magnetite concentrate mined each year from 2020.

Cairn Hill is now in a production pause while final regulatory approvals for the expansion is finalised with both the State and Federal governments.

Following this, Cu-River plan to spend $230 million in infrastructure improvements, including a wet processing plant, tailings dam and power station.

The expanded mine is expected to provide employment for up to 350 people.

It’s an exciting time to be involved in the Company!

In addition, Cu-River has an ambitious growth strategy that will see it headquartered in South Australia for decades to come.

Next in the project pipeline is Snaefell and Tomahawk mines.  Both are located to the south of Cairn Hill and expect to employ up to 750 each once production comes online.
